Chiltern Cross Country League Information

League Organisation
The league is organised into two divisions. Currently there are 14 clubs in Division 1 and the rest are in Division 2.
As from the 2002/2003 season, both divisions normally compete at the same venue in the same races but with separate scoring.

Extra events
Under 11 boys (3 to score)
Under 11 girls (3 to score)
There will be no separate divisions (and one set of medals/individual awards) for these races.

All races are scored on a reverse scoring basis, i.e. if there are 50 athletes in a race and a club has athletes in 1st, 3rd, 8th and 10th places they score 50+48+43+41 = 182 points. This means that a club does not have to have the full number of athletes to complete a team. Scores from the different age group races (excluding under 11's and veterans) are added into overall male, female and male plus female team scores.

In the senior races, athletes can count in both the senior and veteran or senior and junior team scoring .

All races except the veterans and junior races (where athletes can be scoring twice) count towards the overall league scoring.

Only first claim members can score for their clubs. Second claim members and athletes transferring clubs can compete as guests. Guest athletes should use a number from their club and should be clearly marked on club declarations as non scorers. Athletes who are in none of these categories and not members of clubs affiliated to the league can compete for a fee of 1 per match and should report to the league secretary to collect a number.

Age Groups
Young athletes' age groups are taken as under the mentioned age at midnight 31st August/1st September preceding the season. Under 11's must be over 9 on 31st August/1st September preceding the season. Veterans must have reached their age category (over 35, 45 for ladies, 40, 50 or 60 for men) on the day of the race. If an athlete becomes a veteran or if veteran changes category during the season they are scored in the younger category unless they have completed at least 4 matches during the season in the older category.

Individual Awards
Leading athletes over the season can win the following awards. The scoring is based on the athletes best 4 races out of the 5 in a season, their positions being added together to give their score.

First three senior men, first three veterans over 40, first three veterans over 50, first veteran over 60, first three juniors, first three in senior competition regardless of age group.
First three under 17 men, first three under 15 boys, first three under 13 boys.
First three senior ladies, first three veterans over 35, first three veterans over 45, first three juniors, first three under 17 ladies, first three in senior competition regardless of age group.
First three under 15 girls, first three under 13 girls.
First three under 11 boys, first three under 11 girls.

No awards are made if insufficient athletes compete in 4 races in a category. However, if a match is cancelled the awards are made on the basis of the best 3 out of 4 races, the overriding principle being that athletes can miss one match.
